Eight in Payne's Gray Online Debut

I did it!!  As promised here they are..Eight in Payne's Gray!

These will be shown at the art show I will be doing with my brother in-law at our Final Friday Oct. 26 here in Wichita, Kansas.  They are all 16x20x1.5" acrylic and paper collage on stretched canvas.  Sides are painted dark brown and the paintings are finished with varnish.

I challenged myself to do this series and I am so happy I stayed with it.  I learned some things about myself while doing this mega-project and what I learned is this:

1.  That I don't like doing a series consecutively. It becomes tedious. Does this mean I have ADD?
2. Getting depth with shading on faces is a lot easier to do with only white and Payne's Gray vs flesh tones.
3.  I can get a little strange when expressing myself artistically...who knew?
4.  It is almost as fun coming up with the names for the paintings as much as painting them.
5.  I really have no clue what to charge for my art.

So without further ado, here they are in the order of their creation.

1.  Ann
2.  Alona
3.  Heather
4. Olga
5.  Ramira
6.  Summer
7.  Mariposa
8.  Lola

Two thoughts as I close this post:
1.  This was FUN!!!
2.  Yay!  I'm free!!!  Where's my pencils?  Where's my journal?  Where'd I put  those pretty house pictures?!!   Where's my charcoal!!??

OK,  3rd thought:  Maybe I really do have ADD.
:)

Thanks for looking!
♥ Lisa

Olga, with the repeat polka dot pattern in various sizes plus clever use of negative and positive areas really grabbed my interest.

  21. I love Alona, she has so much personality...I find series tedius too. Maybe it's just discipline? Or ADD, that could be me too. Wonderful work, the payne's gray is so different. xox

  22. Love Love Love your quirky faces. From one Face painter to another, I think we must be soul sisters. You have Egon Schiele as an entry on your Tumblr page and yes oh yes, he's in our tribe too. These faces you have just completed are uber wonderful. I discovered my passion for painting at 54, and you at 42. Time has nothing to do with it, we've been birthing this creativity from the moment we were born. All blessings to you, Lisa, and abundant success.

  35. Lisa, I do not know about ADD, but you truly have a gift and I know that your art is well-received. These are just amazing! Now, you can exhale a sigh of relief. You DID it! Now, you can reward yourself with free-flowing artistic creation without worrying just now about a series. What concentration you have, and there is no indication that you let down at all as you worked on the last of these! Bravo!

  36. Lisa - these paintings are stunning. Each a unique and intrigue journey into how you see the world of women around you and in your subconscious.

I did have to google Payne's Gray; now I don't feel like I'm in the dark (the ART forest is very thick) and can better appreciate the colouring of these amazing and exquisite faces.

You really do inspire me - thank you.

  41. Ooooohhh! I thought I commented here already! Wow! You have been very busy in a most delightful way. These portraits are great. Wow! Such diversity. Have a great time. Tsup! Hehehe. It is an onomatopoeia, the sound you make when you pucker your lips and kiss someone on the cheek. It was a word Filipino comic book writers used to signify a kiss when I was a little girl growing up in the Philippines. Okay, I have to go back to work now. Quick break. Tsup!

  44. Oh my goodness, Lisa, how fabulous are all of these!!!! These are all so unique and interesting. I have a formula for pricing my work that I got from Robert Burridge. If you want to email me and I will let you know what he suggests. This works for me and relieves the "pricing stress."
